Play ‘Poulsbo-opoly’ — Support Scholarships and Other Good Causes

Poulsbo-opolyThere’s a new game in town.

“Poulsbo-opoly” is in the house. Or rather, at Hill Moving & Storage, which graciously agreed to store 1,000 of these limited-edition games.

Yes, it’s just like that game that we have all played before. But this time with familiar spots around Poulsbo — complete with gorgeous photos.

“This is a fun way to get the family off their electronic devices and talking with one another again,” explains Mary Ann Bartley, president of Soroptimist International of Greater North Kitsap. “For our club, it was a unique way to raise funds to help women and girls right here in our community.”

Poulsbo-opoly“Poulsbo-opoly” is the brainchild of Windermere’s Pam Taplin.

“Our Soroptimist club has been known for a great event, Bras for a Cause. But a few years ago, we noticed an auction fatigue — too many good causes tapping into a generous but weary community,” Taplin says. “We were looking for something that might be different and appeal to a broad audience. We think this is it.”

Taplin teamed with retired teacher and Soroptimist newcomer Honey Catriz and gathered other interested club members to figure out just how to produce “Poulsbo-opoly.”

Poulsbo-opolyPoulsbo-opoly“It was amazing,” Catriz says. “The idea was to cover the cost of creating the game by selling the spaces on the board — and boy, was that easy. Nearly every business we spoke with said ‘yes’ on the spot. That was when we knew we were on to something.”

Graphic designer Shiloh Schroeder of Fusion Creative Works loaned her talents to ensure the game has a gorgeous, high-quality look and feel.

“Poulsbo-opoly” is available in Poulsbo at Central Market, Kitsap Credit Union, Bon Cheveux, Liberty Bay Books, Flicka, Hot Shots Java, Slippery Pig Brewery, Well Being Health Center, Front Street Gallery, Kitsap Printing, Poulsbo Maritime Museum & Visitor Center, Bon Cheveux, Coffee Oasis and Café Cocina. Each limited edition game sells for $40 and all proceeds will go to scholarships, programs and other projects that directly improve the lives of local women and children.
