Northwest Idea House 2025“Thinking about our vision for the home, we were hoping for a modern mountain feel. A place where you felt like you could disconnect and relax,” said the homeowners, who wish to remain anonymous. “We wanted to make sure we built a home that could grow with our family. We considered all seasons of life. We looked at how we would use the home with kids in the house, what it would look like with our kids off to college, as well as with them bringing their own families back to visit someday.”

One could say they set out to build their forever home among a beautifully wooded backdrop along a quiet street. The home has a long driveway flanked by lovely native landscaping, realistic-looking artificial turf, and a massive, welcoming front door.

Home designer Greg Zetterberg and his brother, builder Jeff Zetterberg, describe the style of the home as a mix of modern transitional meets regional Northwest style.

“Regional Northwest architecture is characterized by the use of natural wood, large glass walls, and low-pitched or flat roofs,” the home designer explained. “This allows the home to integrate with its landscape and bring natural light into the spaces while protecting them from the elements.

“Modern transitional design brings traditional and modern aesthetics together to form a home that uses mixed materials, neutral colors, balanced facades, and large windows to create a relaxed, balanced feel.”

Much of the staging throughout the home was curated by Sage Interiors.

Melding the two resulted in Northwest Idea Home magic that can be felt from the first impression when pulling up to the residence to the second one walks in, and all the way throughout. It’s warm, inviting, and awe-inspiring with its larger-than-life details, from the steep-angled wood-clad roof, sizable beams, and stone detailing.

Interior designer Amber Zetterberg was inspired by the space, and enjoyed working with the homeowners. “From breaking ground to handing over the keys, this project was a lot of fun,” she said. Some of her favorite luxury features in the home are the Elkay filtered water bottle station, espresso maker, dual islands, steam shower, gym with a sauna, and the moody wet bar that feels kind of like a speakeasy.

The goal of the build was to create a home that could function as an entertainment hotspot for large groups but also feel intimate and cozy for smaller groups and day-to-day family life.

That took strategy to accomplish both from the get-go.

“The layout was determined by dividing private and public spaces and connecting them by creating interesting ‘transition’ spaces that make you pause and take in the views of the landscape and trees outside as well as the view lines through the interior of the home,” the home designer said.

The homeowners moved in this fall and are enjoying their space’s functionality. “Even though we have only lived here a short amount of time, we have found some of our favorite spaces. If I had to choose one space, though, it would be the main living space — the kitchen, living room, dining room, and outdoor patio,” one homeowner said. “It is such a great space that feels so intimate but can entertain so many people. It has such a natural, peaceful feel about it with all the stone, wood, and natural light that comes in throughout the day. We start and end our days in these spaces, and a lot of time is spent here. In this particular space, you can truly see what is going on all around the house, inside and out.”

The homeowners were very involved with the building team in the creation of the home, drawing inspiration from homes they liked in Colorado and Utah. They researched products, flagged color schemes, and collected photos.

“We all worked together as a team on decisions, and we couldn’t be more pleased with our experience. Jeff, Amber, and the rest of the Zetterberg team have so much experience and knowledge in the industry. Every design choice — from cabinets, to storage space, to the flow of the house — was made to enhance our day-to-day and how we function, allowing our family to go through each season of life.”

Who Should Build Your Home?

Building and designing a home like this is a huge life decision. The homeowners and Zetterberg Homes had a meeting once a week for a period of time to talk about the project, process, and make key decisions. “Find the right builder for you. Two big areas that your builder should be great at are communication and the budget. We would highly recommend the Zetterbergs and would use them over and over again. Our experience with them was beyond superior.” — The homeowners
