Continues Passion for Trades Through Third Generation

Kimco PlumbingHaving a personal touch is often appreciated with businesses, and the best place to find caring and personable professionals is usually inside small, family-based businesses such as Kimco Plumbing in Poulsbo. Jessica Young, a co-owner of Kimco Plumbing along with her husband and mother, says, “We really like to build … a team that respects each other. … We really like having that family feel.”

Young and her husband began implementing that philosophy in 2018, the year they became co-owners. “In 2017, my father, Bill Kimler, retired, and my husband and I took over and bought out his shares of his half of the business,” Young explains.

Young had been part of the business since 2000, about a decade after it opened. “It’s just always been a part of my life,” she says. “It’s a family-run business and has been since the beginning.”

Similarly, Bill Kimler was part of his family’s plumbing business. “My grandfather owned a plumbing business, and my father became a plumber at a young age,” Young says. “He worked all over, learned a bunch, and then decided to go out on [his] own.”

Kimco Plumbing Inc., specializes in new construction in Western Washington. “A majority of our work is new-construction plumbing, so houses [and] apartments,” Young says. “We do remodel work and light commercial. … We do a lot of custom homes.”

Kimco PlumbingYoung and her husband have further developed the business since becoming co-owners. They have also taken on an additional aspect of aiding clients.

“My parents … definitely built the business and started it in the new-construction direction. We really enjoy that, and we enjoy helping people design and build their project out to accomplish what their desires are,” Young says. “My husband and I try to get into projects when they are still designing, to help them facilitate what they want to accomplish.”

Young is looking to find ways to help others through the company, such as with the project planning. “We really are trying to just take what my parents started and grow it … in depth and involvement,” she says.

Kimco PlumbingThe business also wants to be more involved in attracting younger generations into the trades, “giving options to kids,” because a career such as plumbing is a great alternative for someone who doesn’t plan to attend a university. Young values showing the avenues that young people can take for their lives.

Kimco Plumbing has developed itself, properties and the area many of us call home. Young says, “I really appreciate the ability to bring our team together as a community and then to go out into the community and interact in different ways, whether that’s helping to put together a project or plumb a building or get involved with students (however that manifests itself at any given time). For us, building community is key, and the ability to do that in multiple ways through Kimco Plumbing is something we cherish.”
