Once called “the liveliest town on Puget Sound,” Seabeck is much quieter these days — but still a wonderful place to visit and take in the sights and sounds of life away from the urban rush. The former mill town has some of the most magnificent views around, along with various opportunities to frolic in Mother Nature’s playground, both on land and in the water.
During its heyday, Seabeck had a booming lumber industry, with the local lumber being shipped all over the world. Numerous ships visited the area, including the largest single-deck ship ever, the Olympus. Many of the historic homes remain today, reminding visitors of those days of yesteryear.
If you enjoy spending a day in the nature, don’t miss the Scenic Beach State Park and the Kitsap County-owned Guillemot Cove Park. Scenic Beach boasts 88 acres that are home to a variety of wildlife, and includes 1,500 feet of Hood Canal beachfront complete with views of the Olympic Mountains. The park includes camping and an events rental facility. Guillemot Cove offers several trails and is a great place for family hiking. One of the hikes leads ‰ to the beach, with sweeping views of Hood Canal and the mountains.
While you’re strolling the area, get a bite to eat at Barbie’s Café (save room for dessert!) or Seabeck Pizza, stock up on basics at the General Store and grab a coffee at Turies Seabeck Espresso.
