South Kitsap resident and artist Teri Erasmus recently opened The Bisque, a new pottery studio on Bay Street in Port Orchard.
“Our goal is to bring together those that have been looking for community and connection with others,” Erasmus recently told Kitsap Daily. “Pottery has a way of connecting people in the best way.”
Erasmus was first introduced to ceramics while studying at Utah Valley University, according to the article.
After she started a family and moved to Seattle, Erasmus was reminded of how much making pottery brought her joy, so she honed her craft by taking ceramics classes at Shoreline Community College. From there, she knew she wanted to turn her handmade pottery into a business.
The ceramicist began her own venture, Pots by Teri, in 2020. Operating out of her home garage, she sold pieces online through her website and gained notoriety on social media. She began hosting workshops out of her home which fostered connections and supported her love of teaching. Eventually, she decided to open a storefront.
At her new 3,000-square-foot brick-and-mortar, Erasmus teaches six-week wheel-throwing and hand-building classes, hosts events, and offers workshops, day passes, memberships, private lessons, and weekly children’s lessons.
Erasmus will continue Pots by Teri and selling items online in addition to her work at The Bisque.
