The Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance has named Clare Dunis as its new executive director, Gig Harbor Now recently reported.

Dunis, who starts in the role on Jan. 9, succeeds Carrianne Ekberg, who led the organization for nearly three years. An Australian who grew up in Melbourne, Dunis currently serves as the organization’s special projects and outreach director.

According to the article, Dunis graduated from the Australian Institute of Management in Melbourne and began a career in corporate agency sales and marketing. She worked for a U.S.-based agency in Australia before moving to the U.S. in 2011.

Dunis met her husband, Mark Geist, a Gig Harbor High School graduate, after moving to the U.S. In 2019, they relocated to Gig Harbor.
