Overview: Mini vans trail SUVs in the cool category but they shine in the family practicality department. The 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite is an outstanding family transportation module if you can check your ego and admit that you won’t be traversing the Olympic mountains on rugged Forest Service roads. The Odyssey has been mildly updated for 2025 but it retains all the practicality, comfort, versatility, and safety features it has always had.

Walkaround: The Honda Odyssey won’t win any beauty contests. Function beats form. The various styling lines on the sides and slight rise on the sliding side doors disrupt the pure “box on wheels” look. Wraparound taillights are massive and the nose of the Odyssey is sharp. Honda obviously knows how to style very handsome cars but the Odyssey isn’t one of them.

2025 Honda OdysseyInterior: The leather-trimmed Odyssey Elite interior makes up for the awkward exterior which is a good thing because mini vans are more about comfort, space, versatility, and practicality than style. Honda quality was evident in the Odyssey interior. Both front seats were heated, ventilated, and equipped with power lumbar adjustments. Second row space and comfort were excellent with a flat floor. Honda calls its versatile second row seats Magic Slide since they move forward/back and side to side. This eases third row access. Third row seats can be stowed but the second row seats need to be removed for maximum cargo capacity. A power liftgate is standard.

Behind the Wheel: Although the Odyssey looks brick-like it drives and handles very well — much in keeping with Honda’s reputation for engineering excellence. The ride is smooth and confident without wallowing. Solid describes Odyssey handling. The 10-speed automatic works well with the 280-horsepower V6. An available hybrid option and/or all-wheel-drive would be big pluses. Our best mpg was 27.3 which almost matched EPA estimates.

Bottom line: We reluctantly liked the 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite in spite of our personal image issues. Putting vanity aside the Honda Odyssey is a fine vehicle. It does everything well as a multipurpose family vehicle. Comfort, space, and versatility are tops as are safety, quality, and value — all things that make Hondas so desirable.
