Echoes Brewing Co. opened its doors in 2022, run by Samay Jain; his brother, Manas Jain; and their wives.
Samay Jain explains that when he moved here, they checked out the area and ended up at a place called Sound Brewery. “At Sound, my wife and I really loved the beer and the vibe,” he says. “Fast-forward a few years after that, and we were looking through our newspaper … [and] saw a little article saying that Sound was closing. We were pretty sad about that, because Sound was our favorite beer in the community.”
Once that happened, the couple had a “crazy idea” to buy the business. They talked with Sound Brewery owner Mark Hood, because they wanted to keep him on.
“I really wanted to have [Mark Hood’s] beers represented,” Jain says. “We felt like through the whole process, we wanted to keep the foundation of Sound in the community.” As a result, Hood is the brewmaster with the new brewery, Echoes Brewing Co.
The name of Echoes Brewing keeps Sound Brewery alive, according to Jain.
“We’re called Echoes, because we came after Sound,” Jain says. “We want people to know that we have that same foundation, but we’re different.”
Jain and his wife, who have young children, stop by at least two to three breweries in every city they visit. “Having moved out here, we realized there really wasn’t a clear family-friendly spot in the region,” he says. “And so, part of what we wanted Echoes to be from the beginning was a kind of family-friendly, community spot.”
Echoes Brewing Co. is split into multiple parts. “We took about half of [the building] and turned it into a taproom and a bar,” Jain explains. “The architectural design was specifically catered around it being a space for families and community events. So, that’s what we wanted. We have the mezzanine area that can be rented out for community events, and we’ve done plenty of those already.”
There are also a dedicated children’s area and a dedicated mother’s room. This room, designed based on the couple’s experience, is intended to be comfortable for mothers with babies.
“When we traveled, my wife was still breastfeeding. We went to a lot of places where we didn’t have comfortable places to change our kids or breastfeed Jain says. “So when we built this space, I said, ‘I’ll never want a dad or mom to ever change their kids on a dirty bathroom countertop again or go out to the car and do it in the backseat of their car,’ which I’ve done before.”
The taproom offers a wide variety of beers. “Being in the Pacific Northwest, you’ve got to have your pale ales, your IPAs,” Jain says. “We have a good mix of those. We have a single, double, triple IPA, and an English IPA — it goes on.”
Brewmaster Hood’s specialty is in the Belgium and German beers, so the menu includes Belgium strong ales, a Belgium white and a Belgium triple, among others, as well as traditionally brewed German beers.
“If you’re a beer drinker and you want to try something, Echoes is the place to come, because we’ll have the ones you’re used to drinking in this region and we’ll have other ones you’ve probably never tried before,” Jain says.
He adds, “Echoes is really meant to be a family-friendly, craft brewery that’s welcoming to everyone, and we’ve seen that. My favorite time being at Echoes is when I see families with kids there. I love that.”
