When you think of the Kitsap Peninsula, a few choice images might come to mind, such as ferries chugging along, waterfront communities buzzing with coffee shops, and farmers’ markets — but right up there might also be the perfect combo — a pint of local beer and a slice of pizza. Lucky for West Sound folks and all who visit, the 371 miles of Kitsap’s shoreline trace a border around some of the best of both in the Pacific Northwest.

Pints and pizza in the West Sound is not just a killer comfort-food pairing; it’s a way of moving through small towns, waterfronts, and wooded backroads, with curiosity and appetite leading the way.

Let’s follow the Pizza & Pints trail, starting at the north end of the Peninsula.

Sourdough Willy’s Pizzeria

Kingston wears the crown for one of the most award-winning pizza shops with its internationally recognized Sourdough Willy’s, renowned for their more than 100-year-old sourdough starter that forms the crust of their pies. Just up the road from the pizzeria is Hood Canal Brewing, a great low-key hangout spot and purveyor of locally made craft beer.

Valholl Brewing

A stop at Poulsbo’s Western Red Brewing feels like settling into a friend’s (a friend
whose job is logging) living room in all the best ways. A few blocks away, Valholl Brewing brings great beer and Viking vibes to the party. Poulsbo Woodfired Pizza turns out blistered, Neapolitan-inspired pies that tend to disappear quickly and can be eaten in-house or taken to the nearby waterfront for a picnic.

Bruciato

Bainbridge Island‘s Bainbridge Brewing keeps a thoughtful and rotating tap list at both of their locations: Bainbridge Island Coppertop Park and Winslow Way, located just steps away from the ferry. Downtown’s Bruciato is a pizza lover’s happy place with hand-tossed wood-fired ’za made with fresh ingredients, served in an Italian trattoria-style space — think big communal tables and the hum of pleasant conversation.

Stop by Silverdale for Silver City Restaurant & Ale House. As a Kitsap staple for many years, the brewery and restaurant craft locally-loved beer and serve a full menu. Farrelli’s Pizza, Tessio, and Spiro’s Pizza & Pasta are all heavy hitters with big followings as well. For fresh local beer in a casual, no-frills atmosphere, we love Moment Brewing.

Dog Days Brewing

Bremerton is where the taps at Silver City Brewery have been pouring Northwest favorites for years. Be sure to stop in to see where the magic happens and grab a cold one. Another staple is Tony’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, which has served authentic Italian fare since 1966. One of our favorite hangs is Evergreen Pizza Co., a vibey locale on the edge of Evergreen Park, making the perfect spot for a play date. More Bremerton breweries include Ridgeline Brewing, a spot that is kid and dog-friendly, and Dog Days Brewing in the heart of Quincy Square.

Damn Fine Pizza

On Port Orchard’s waterfront is Damn Fine Pizza, a beloved local hangout with big views — and dare we say — damn fine pizza. Cruise country roads through forest and field to arrive at Yoked Farmhouse Brewery, a spot that feels reminiscent of Tolkien’s Shire, where chickens and baby goats share space with pints and bites. Just a bit farther down the way is Olalla Bay Market & Landing, a gathering place for well over a century that was reimagined by local author Gregg Olsen to be a place for pizza, coffee, and sandwiches with a selection of local beers on tap.
