This summer, Gov. Bob Ferguson declared September “Eat Local Month,” which shines a spotlight on locally grown food in Washington and encourages healthy eating habits, sustainability, and the preservation of farmland and fishing waters.
In honor of the month-long celebration, we’ve rounded up a few local markets in Kitsap County where residents and visitors can reliably find locally grown produce and goods sourced from nearby farms, artisans, and other local makers. Find them below.
Poulsbo Farmers Market
The Poulsbo Farmers Market has been operating for more than 20 years and is one of the few that runs past fall and into winter, available between March 28-Dec. 12. On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. off Eighth Avenue Northeast, the market offers fresh farm-grown produce, preserved goods like jams and pickles, florals, and more.
Bainbridge Island Farmers Market
Open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4-Nov. 21 on Saturdays at Bainbridge Island City Hall, the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market has a variety of growers, makers, and vendors. Just some of the farms that frequent the market include Farmhouse Organics, Leap Frog Farm, Winney Farm, and others.
Port Orchard Farmers Market and Wednesday Market
This year marks the Port Orchard Farmers Market’s 48th season and is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4-Oct. 31 on the Port Orchard Waterfront. Regular vendors typically include Aguilar’s Farm, Hayton Farms Berries, Tom Farmer Oyster Company, and others.
The market also hosts a Wednesday market, available from 3-7 p.m. July 1-Sept. 30 at South Kitsap Helpline on Mile Hill Drive.
