Long evenings, saltwater breezes, and the scent of something sizzling on the grill can mean only one thing in the West Sound: summer has arrived.

Across the Kitsap Peninsula and its neighboring shoreline communities, brewery patios are filling, taps are rotating into warm-weather mode, and local brewers are pouring beers made for the season. Think citrusy IPAs, crisp lagers, easy- drinking blondes, and refreshing ales meant to follow a paddle, a ferry ride, or an afternoon in the garden.

If you love gathering outdoors, Kitsap’s brewery scene is an easy way to make a day of it — water views, communal tables, flower-lined patios, and (often) live music and food trucks.

Build Your Own Summer Ale Trail

This self-guided route links Gig Harbor, Bremerton, Kingston, Poulsbo, and Bainbridge Island for a weekend of scenic sipping. Plan, designate a driver, and leave room for spontaneous detours to beaches, boutiques, and waterfront parks.

Stop 1: Gig Harbor

Begin in Gig Harbor, where maritime charm meets polished waterfront style. With boats bobbing in the harbor and Mount Rainier often visible in the distance, this is one of the most picturesque starts to any beer trail.

7 Seas Brewing anchors the local scene with a spacious taproom, lively atmosphere, and dependable lineup of summer-ready beers, from bright lagers to hop-forward ales. Its new waterfront taproom is the summer spot for outdoor sipping. Nearby, Evergreen State Brewing continues the community brewery tradition with a refreshed identity and local energy.

Stop 2: Bremerton

Next, head north to Bremerton, where a revitalized downtown and active waterfront have helped shape a growing craft beer culture. Ferries glide in and out, music spills from venues, and taprooms draw an easygoing mix of locals and visitors.

Crane’s Castle Brewing is known for its broad selection and neighborhood warmth, making it a reliable stop for tasting flights and casual afternoons. Ridgeline Brewing adds another layer to the city’s scene with thoughtfully crafted beer and a welcoming setting.

Stop 3: Kingston

A short drive brings travelers to Kingston, where ferry traffic and small-town charm create an ideal pause on the ale trail.

Friends & Neighbors, formerly Downpour Brewing, has entered a fresh chapter under new ownership and a new name. It keeps the spirit of community gathering alive, offering a friendly place to settle in after a ferry crossing or shoreline walk.

Kingston’s compact downtown, marina, and easy access to beaches make it an underrated summer destination.

Stop 4: Poulsbo

Continue to Poulsbo, where Scandinavian heritage, marina views, and a bustling downtown make this one of Kitsap’s most charming beer stops. Front Street’s bakeries, boutiques, and waterfront paths are reason enough to visit, but the brewery lineup seals the deal.

Right downtown, you’ll find Western Red Brewing with daily events and happenings as well as Valhöll Brewing, which embraces the town’s Nordic roots with bold personality and convivial atmosphere. Echoes Brewing and Rainy Daze Brewery, off Viking Way, round out the town’s roster, making Poulsbo one of the peninsula’s strongest multi-stop beer destinations.

Stop 5: Bainbridge Island

Finish on Bainbridge Island, where ferry-town sophistication meets island ease. A quick walk from downtown shops and shoreline parks, Bainbridge Brewing Alehouse has become a destination for thoughtfully crafted ales and people watching right on Winslow Way.

Grab a bike (from Bike Barn, near the ferry) and head up to the brewery taproom in the Coppertop complex and enjoy a pint, or grab a glass of wine from Fletcher Bay Winery, next door, or a cocktail from Bainbridge Organic Distillers, just across the parking lot. It’s the kind of place where one tasting flight turns into a slow evening among friends.

Patio Culture, Water Views, and Live Music

One of Kitsap’s greatest strengths is how breweries embrace the outdoors. Expect picnic tables strung with lights, dog-friendly patios, hanging baskets in bloom, and open doors welcoming in marine air. Summer weekends often bring live music, food trucks, and bustling patios where strangers become tablemates. Some of the Northwest’s best summer sipping is waiting just outside your front door, so get tasting!
