The Port of Bremerton recently announced that it received the Washington Public Port Association’s Community Outreach Award for its efforts tied to its Airport Feasibility Study.
The award highlighted the port’s transparency and commitment to accessibility and public participation while conducting a study evaluating possible ramifications if it were to introduce passenger and/or cargo service at the Bremerton National Airport.
“We are honored to receive this award,” Port of Bremerton CEO Jim Rothlin said in a press release. “The process was essential in identifying a path that delivers an amenity the community can truly appreciate, while also preserving the quality of life our citizens value.”
To gather public feedback, the port used multiple channels, including a community-wide survey, a hybrid public open house, social media, newsletters, and project websites.
“At the Port of Bremerton, we have as one of our core values the sharing of information with, and asking questions of, our tax-paying public,” Commission President Cary Bozeman said in the release. “This Community Outreach award acknowledges that we build this value into our everyday operating strategy.”
