The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art yesterday announced that it has appointed Andy Maus as its next executive director.
Maus, who most recently served as executive director at Tacoma Art Museum, will officially assume his position on Sept. 14, according to a BIMA news release.
The appointment comes on the heels of previous BIMA director Sheila Hughes’ departure last month.
“BIMA conducted a national search which revealed a deep and rich field of talented potential Executive Directors,” said Suzanna Darcy, president of BIMA’s board of directors, in the release. “The quality of the applicant pool made it clear that the museum is now recognized nationally for showcasing Puget Sound artists and for being the home of the Cynthia Sears Artists’ Books Collection.”
Maus brings with him years of experience in museum leadership. Prior to his role at TAM, he worked with the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.
Maus also currently serves on the board of trustees for the Association of Art Museum Directors.
When asked about what drew him to BIMA, Maus cited the museum’s upstanding reputation in the community and its focus on providing a welcoming environment to all of its visitors.
