Amtrak’s Airo trains have made their passenger-service debut on Amtrak Cascades.
Two new trainsets began operating Sept. 30, marking the first time Airo trains have entered service anywhere in the country.
The new trains will operate four daily Amtrak Cascades trips between Vancouver, B.C., Seattle, Portland, and Eugene, with additional trainsets scheduled to join the route through early 2027.
The fleet was designed by Siemens Mobility, with components supplied by nearly 100 companies across 31 states. Airo trains feature more than 300 seats, panoramic windows, complimentary Wi-Fi, individual power outlets and charging ports, accessible seating and features, six restrooms, and an updated café with food and beverages inspired by the region.
“These new Amtrak Cascades trains are a game-changer for rail travel in the Pacific Northwest,” WSDOT Secretary Julie Meredith said in a recent release. “They bring improved reliability, comfort, and amenities to one of the most scenic rail corridors in the country. We’re particularly excited to be the first in the nation to introduce these new trains into service.”
