The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art announced this week that it has launched a new year-round residency program called the Daisy Lane: Print and Book Artist Residency.
The residency program is inspired by the legacy of BIMA’s founder, Cynthia Sears, to whom the organization has dedicated its Cynthia Sears Artists’ Books Collection. The collection holds a variety of media like letterpress, silkscreen, and Risograph.
Daisy Lane offers residence for two artists at a time and provides a focused, well-lit environment where the museum encourages them to experiment, try new ideas, and explore their creative practices, a release noted.
“Artists’ books have always held a special place at BIMA, from a dedicated gallery space to housing the Cynthia Sears Artists’ Books Collection,” Erin Zona, BIMA’s curator of the CSABC, said in a press release. “Launching a residency dedicated to those who create artists’ books felt like a natural next step. Daisy Lane gives artists the time, space, and resources to explore ideas and experiment.”
The program comes equipped with tools for print and bookmaking, including equipment from the studios of Paper Hammer and Marquand Books in Tieton, Washington. Additionally, artists will have access to a flatbed and platen press, a paper guillotine, polymer platemaker, screen printing equipment, and more.
Applications for the inaugural class of artists are open from Oct. 1-Dec. 1 and can be found here.
