Northern Giant Creative Group

The Northern Giant Creative Group is dedicated to helping small businesses no matter the project. “A collective of award-wining creative designers, craftsmen, writers, developers, artists, strategists and visionaries,” the group offers expertise in design, marketing, apparel, production and fabrication. “We are bigger, better and stronger together,” the collective’s website says.

Oliver Schulster, the group’s founder, went to art school in Seattle, spent time in California and moved to Bainbridge Island recently.

“I’ve been just deciding how I wanted to construct a new company that was something different than what I did before,” he says. “My agency that I grew in California was really focused on growth and revenue … [and] I got lost from what the roots were of that company: the creative process and building something that was organic and really, truly authentic to that customer or client.”

When he launched Northern Giant, Schulster decided to keep it small and focus on the types of projects the team excels at and enjoys and customers appreciate as well. “What that means is working with local, smaller companies so we can have a more one-on-one experience, really understand who they are and how we can help them build out their creative brand, or help them with their own marketing, or help them with their products, packaging or anything else,” he says.

In addition, Schulster says the groups tries to experiment with how they can use their skillsets to develop other channels. One offshoot that he’s excited about creates custom, carved wood signs using specialists from Northern Giant Creative Group, which is a common thread in the business.

“I can assemble a team, depending on what projects that we have that are best for them. … We have a nice group of people,” he says.

The contractors come from Bainbridge Island and beyond, across the Kitsap Peninsula. Schulster calls Northern Giant Creative Group “access points to that talent.”

In addition to the day-to-day operations and the custom wood signs, “one of our next steps is to create a merchandise and packaging company that’s going to be for small scale,” Schulster says.

This new company is part of his plan to create more channels for Northern Giant Creative Group. “We’re thinking of ways that we can create these sort of custom packaging ideas for small or midsized companies that are local here to the island or the peninsula,” he explains.
