Overview: The Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe returned to the lineup for 2024 and has remained for 2025. This luxury compact SUV has a hatchback coupe body because not everyone wants a boxy wagon. AMG features provide a spirited driving experience with multiple driving modes to favor either comfort or performance.
Walkaround: In a crowded SUV wagon world the AMG GLC 43 Coupe is refreshing. The optional 21-inch AMG wheels were sharp looking and a good way to show off great AMG brakes. Our tester had the $3250 optional matte graphite gray paint which was OK but we think this paint trend is just that — trendy. We’d save money and get glossy paint. Fit and finish were typically excellent as expected on a Mercedes.
Interior: The interior was stylish and luxurious with excellent materials, fit/finish, and attention to details. The AMG seats are a joy for both comfort and support. Thigh support is a big plus. The extra thick textured flat bottom steering wheel was outstanding. Auxiliary controls are numerous. Rear seat room was passable but the sloped roof impacted ingress/egress. Cargo space was very good except for limitations imposed by the coupe roofline.
Behind the Wheel: AMG emblems are synonymous with driving fun and generally larger displacement engines but the turbocharged 2.0-liter with Hybrid assist and 416-horsepower was stout. Zero-to-sixty times have been reported under five seconds which is quick for a V-6 or V-8. The excellent Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive is ideal for seasonally changing road conditions. AMG brakes are always impressive. Fuel economy wasn’t great but our aggressive driving probably hampered results. Handling was firm but still very smooth on most road surfaces.
Bottom Line: The Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe is a handsome, distinctive SUV that’s more sport than utility which suits how most people use such a vehicle. Driving fun and interior comfort/luxury are top features. Practicality is good with the hatchback design. The infotainment system was complicated and not very intuitive. Sticker shock was present but if 80K is palatable the Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe is an impressive car.
