Overview: The 2024 Toyota Prius XLE AWD is a slick looking compact hybrid sedan that gets impressive fuel economy. Styling is a major improvement over the previous body style. The Prius is a good size for commuting and city driving.
Walkaround: The Toyota Prius has a very modern almost futuristic wedge-like look with wheels pushed to its outer corners. Our had XLE had handsome 19-inch wheels and the optional fixed glass roof.
Interior: The interior features excellent front row room and comfort. Rear seat room is less generous. The heated synthetic leather front seats were supportive and fine on long trips. Cargo space is ample with extra bins under the rear deck. We would have appreciated less hard plastic on interior surfaces.
Behind the Wheel: The AWD Prius has two electric motors to supplement the 2.0-liter gas engine. Power application is smooth and adequate if not athletic. The CVT transmission and the AWD work fine. Several performance modes including Sport and Eco allow for different driving styles. Our best MPG was below the EPA estimate at 44.8 mpg, but that’s still impressive.
Bottom line: The 2024 Toyota Prius XLE AWD makes a strong statement for the value of non-plugin hybrids. Outstanding EPA ratings and lower initial costs in a very stylish package with lots of standard features make the Toyota Prius an impressive car and a great value.
