Overview: The 2024 Mazda CX-30 Turbo Premium is a subcompact SUV that packs a lot of driving fun in a small handsome package. It’s roomy for two people, but less so for the rear passengers. A large selection of trim levels makes the CX-30 affordable on the entry models.
Walkaround: The Mazda CX-30 is a handsome vehicle. It has smooth lines with a minimum of overdone cladding or other pseudo monster truck cues. Styling is consistent with other Mazda vehicles. Our top-of-the-line Turbo Premium Plus had black wheel arches and lower body cladding.
Interior: The interior is stylish with upscale materials and execution worthy of more expensive vehicles. Driver and front passenger room and comfort are outstanding. Rear seat room is OK if front seats are moved up some. Cargo space is good but not great due to the sloped rear hatch. Split folding rear seats increase versatility.
Behind the Wheel: Excellent driving dynamics have always been a Mazda strong point and the CX-30 with the potent turbocharged engine and all-wheel-drive delivers lot of twisty road fun. Driving fun and enjoyment help the CX-30 standout from many of its competitors. We got a fuel economy best of 32.1 mpg highway.
Bottom line: The 2024 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo AWD is a compact fun-to-drive subcompact SUV that’s stylish inside and out, well-built, reasonably versatile, and an excellent value that behaves more like a sport sedan/hot hatch than a boring commuter special.
