Overview: The 2024 Lexus NX 350h is essentially unchanged from 2023, which is fine because Lexus got it right when the NX 350 was fully redesigned in 2022. The two-row, five-passenger luxury hybrid has an upscale focus with the added security of all-wheel drive. That’s a big plus for ever-changing Pacific Northwest weather conditions and the wide variety of local terrains and roads.
Walkaround: The 2024 Lexus NX 350h is handsomely styled with ample Lexus-centric cues that leave no doubt what brand it is. Lexus has some great blue hues, and our tester was the bright Grecian Water Blue with a conservative black leather interior — a tough-to-beat combination. The sloped liftgate lends a sedan look although it does cut into cargo space. Our tester had the sharp, optional 20-inch wheels.
Interior: Driver and passenger space and comfort are Lexus hallmarks. The NX 350h features modern styling and upscale materials and execution. The front seats were both heated and ventilated. The driver gets power lumbar but not the front passenger. Rear-seat legroom is above average for its class and our tester had the optional heated rear seats with power folding feature. Cargo space was ample with a flat floor and kick-to-open liftgate. Extra storage was available under the deck.
Behind the wheel: The Lexus NX 350h platform is based on the Toyota RAV4, which is a highly successful and proven sport-utility vehicle (SUV). The platform is maximized in Lexus trim. Driving pleasure is a Lexus given and the NX 350h didn’t disappoint. The ride was comfortable and secure — not sporty but not sloppy either. We put a lot of enjoyable miles on the NX 350h covering the greater Hood Canal and Kitsap Peninsula area. Drive modes included normal, eco and sport, with separate buttons for EV and trails. Sport mode provided a fun boost. Using a variety of modes netted a somewhat disappointing 33-mpg average. An excellent head-up display was a welcome driving aid, as was the contoured, leather steering wheel.
Bottom line: The 2024 Lexus NX 350h Luxury AWD is an excellent all-around SUV with a luxury focus that doesn’t ignore varied road and driving condition options. The NX 350h is best at everyday driving situations, which is most people’s reality. The spacious, comfortable cabin suits long trips and there’s ample luggage, sports gear and cargo capacity. The hybrid design helps maximize fuel economy and Lexus’ strong dependability reputation is a stress reducer in this era of expensive auto repairs.
